Book Blogger Hop & Follow Friday

Can you believe it, guys?

It's Friday!

Photobucket

Which means it's time for Book Blogger Hop and Follow Friday.

Book Blogger Hop

This week’s Hop question is: If you find a book that looks interesting but is part of a series, do you always start with the first title?

ALWAYS. I had no idea people don't start with the first title. Wouldn't that be beyond confusing? Why would you put yourself through that? Right now, I'm reading Fire by Kristin Cashore. It's a companion novel to her hit book Graceling. Supposedly, you don't need to read them in order, but I'm such a stickler on this point, I wouldn't read Fire unless I had read Graceling first.

And, Follow Friday is asking: What is your usual monthly book budget?

I think you'd be shocked if I actually told you. As you can see from my header, I am a library devotee. It's actually quite rare that I buy a book. If I do, I use a Borders coupon or I buy it on my Kindle where it's cheaper. Soooo...frankly, the budget is probably like $9.99 a month. Isn't that grand? Granted, I live in a giant city with a spectacular library system. I realize if you live in a rural area that just ain't happening.

Thanks for swinging by...TGIF!

  1. Monthly budget? Ha! I hit the Salvation Army once a week, where I can get 15 books for 5 bucks. And I work at Borders, so I get a good discount. And I get lots of books in the mail. So...

No budget. I spend what I spend, but I take in a lot of books for the money.

Hope you'll hop on by The Book Frog. I'm you're newest follower!

  2. TGIF!!! Love it :-) aaahh I miss those shows.

$9.99 budget?! that's awesome. I'm a sucker for bookstores. If I don't go in & make a purchase at least once a week, I feel like I'm letting down the book Gods. Silly, I know!

  3. Hiya!! Stopping by for the friday follow hop along :-)
I love the show images in your header!! I miss that kind of TGIF, especially Full House! lol

I definitely operate on a budget, because after I found out that I spent way too much on books last year, I've been much more judicious about what I buy, what I actually need, and what I can pass off to my former bookseller buddies, libraries, etc :-)

  4. I try and use the library as much as possible (afterall I'm there everyday) I tend to buy books that have a huge waitlist and that I just can't wait for as well as ones that I loved and want a copy of for my "home" library. I hope you have a great weekend. Best.

  5. TOPANGA! I love that episode. That was right after she got her new life-transforming sexy haircut and Cory felt insignificant. Ah, Boy Meets World.
Anyway, you know I'm a follower, of course :) Just here to show the lurve.

  6. Hi! I use the library too, but there are some with a LONG wait list, or I just want to own a copy and/or giveaway once read. :)

  7. Good Morning Anna!

    Happy Friday.

Old follower here. I’m doing all three of the Friday blog runs. I don’t limit myself to budget with books. I just love to read and write so that line is always doable for me. And Yes, I love start a series at the 1st book.

  9. Thanks for the comment and follow - I'm flattered!

Uhh...budget? If "refraining from buying ANY book unless it is a favorite" can be considered a budget, then I guess I have a book budget. It's terribly stingy, but I hate the feeling of waste when I put money towards a book I will probably never read again. So, my "first reads" are always from the library.

  10. Bahahaha I suddenly had "Just got paid" by N'Sync in my head when I read the start of this post ;)

Oh, and in answer to the question about a monthly budget for books, I'm sorry to say I don't know what a budget is haha

  12. I've given up trying to impose a budget on myself - I guess my limit is what's in my bank account minus food money. More seriously, I try not to go on a massive spending spree until I've shrunk the pile from my last one.

  13. Hopped in to say hi and am now a follower. Have a wonderful weekend!

  14. Just hopping in lol. I try to start with book one if I can. Sadly my teny weenie book budget doesn't always let me buy in bulk lol

  15. Anna, honestly. Stop making me find more ways to love you! I looove the random 90s show love. I miss Boy Meets World. xD

My book budget is $0! I'm a poor college student, so I only borrow books from the library or read in Barnes and Noble while hogging their air conditioning. :)

  16. I am the same way. It would drive me insane if I started in the middle of a series. How would you know what was going on? Who are the characters? I have to start on page one of book one :)

I'm interested to see what you think about Fire. Personally, I liked Graceling more, but I enjoyed both books.

  18. I can dive right into the middle of a book series if the series' story
    doesn't run chronologically.

That is to say, if each novel in a series is a stand-alone story (like Lee
Child's Reacher novels) then I don't feel the need to start with book one.

On the other hand, a series of books (like Richard Hatch's Battlestar
Galactica novels) can't be read out of sequence since each new book builds
upon the story of the previous entry in the series.

    Happy Book Blogger Hop Friday!

  19. Hopping through and now following you! I try to hit up the thrift stores around where I live. Sometimes they have amazing deals and I can walk away with bags full of books. The library is another great source for free books.

  20. The pics at the top of this post take me back to pretty much every single afternoon after school from 4th - 9th grade. Thanks for the flashback :) I am a HUGE library goer too. The last time I bought a book was in July!

    ReplyDelete
  21. I miss TGIF! I think they need to bring that back. As far as budget-- I spend what I spend. Some months I don't buy a single book, and some months I buy a ton. Funnily enough I think I spent more money on books over the summer even though I had an unpaid internship than I do now that I'm working part-time.

  22. My budget's even lower than that: I'm a big library person too! The only time I buy books nowadays is at thrift stores or during library sales. :)

  25. Hi, Anna! Just dropping by from the hop. Wow! Good for you, girl! I could never live with that budget for books. Our library sucks with books and there are awesome bookstores near my place so it's really tempting. Good for you though!

    Have a nice day!
