For months part-angel Clara Gardner trained to face the raging forest fire from her visions and rescue the alluring and mysterious Christian Prescott from the blaze. But nothing could prepare her for the fateful decisions she would be forced to make that day, or the startling revelation that her purpose—the task she was put on earth to accomplish—is not as straightforward as she thought.
Now, torn between her increasingly complicated feelings for Christian and her love for her boyfriend, Tucker, Clara struggles to make sense of what she was supposed to do the day of the fire. And, as she is drawn further into the world of part angels and the growing conflict between White Wings and Black Wings, Clara learns of the terrifying new reality that she must face: Someone close to her will die in a matter of months.
With her future uncertain, the only thing Clara knows for sure is that the fire was just the beginning.

Unearthly was one of my favorite reads of 2010 – the romance was perfection, and I really admired how seamlessly Cynthia Hand fit paranormal elements into what otherwise came across as a beautiful contemporary novel.
So I was basically drooling over Hallowed -- and, let’s be honest, the thought of more Tucker -- since I got my greedy little paws on this book.
And, sweet lord, I don’t even know what to say. You guys. ARGH! It was so sooooo good but, damn, that was a lot of emotional turmoil.
I cried, a lot. At one point, I had to put the book on the other side of the room because I couldn’t look at it. I had to text Jen, who was reading it at the same time, to break it down.
As frustrating as it was, I’m sort of in awe. Cynthia Hand played me, yo! She took me on this extremely well-written emotional roller coaster ride, and I reacted just how she wanted me to react. That takes major skill!
And, with a third book on the way*, I feel we just have to go along for the ride … she’s clearly got a plan, and I’m dying to see where she’s taking us.
My recommendations? (1) Read this. (2) Prepare yourself for an emotional reaction. (3) Avoid spoilers at all costs. Surprise is a very important part of the reading experience, so behave yourselves!
*AND MAYBE A SHOW ON THE CW! I AM FREAKING OUT!
