The Problem with Trilogies Is...

A quickly and shoddily drawn stick-figure video made in anguish! Book anguish!

Okay, so I was being a little dramatic. I actually LOVED all the books shown in the video. But my heart has basically been ripped to shreds by all the Book 2s I've read lately, and I had to vent.

You know what I mean?

Edit: Someone just pointed out that I put a picture of NSync in here where the Backstreet Boys should be ...hahahaha FAIL. I told you I made this quickly and shoddily in anguish! What can you expect? xo

  1. Hahahah. OMG I loved this! I am terrified Pandemonium is going to rip out my heart. And I have been STALLING on Clockwork Prince for the same reason. Book 2 really is "Hey guess what the Honey Moon phase is over, I got you to like me, now have some AGONY and then wait a YEAR for this cliffhanger to be resolved."

  2. That was awesome! I totally agree. Second books seem specifically created to destroy our hearts. Luckily, third books try to stick them back together again (most of the time, anyway). I love your stick figures. :D

  4. Heehee... I totally feel you on this. This is a funny video.

But... "Quit Playing Games With My Heart" is by the Backstreet Boys, not N'Sync. Still, the reference to the song made me laugh.

  6. Lol. That stick figure you do I'll just never get enough=D. That was so awesome, you got me smiling. But same thing goes here. Book 2 breaks my heart.

  7. I still need to read these books. Now I have been warned.

My problem with Book 2s is usually that they aren't Book 1 or 3. I don't like the middle.

  12. I love this video! I know EXACTLY what you mean - the second books in trilogies are always so... AARGHGHHHSHGHSSDJLKDS. And yes, that's an actual response, haha.

  13. BAHAH. This is why we are friends. But REALLY..I feel you on this. I often want to skip book 2 and just move to book 3 where I know ALL OF THE THINGS WILL BE OK.

  14. Awesome video! I feel the same way. The second book is never good- with the exception of "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" which I love.

  16. Video, hurray! My biggest up and down yanking complaint is the MI books, but more like books 1-4. Cassie is messing with my heart!

  17. Love the video, and so true! Book 2s will be the death of all of us.

Also, loved the use of the song from 10 Things I Hate About You.

  19. That is so cute! I definitely agree with this, Crossed was like that for me. I just feel like it was "filler" in between 1 and 3, because not much happened. And still I read it:P

  20. Bahaha! This totally had me in stitches :) I especially liked the whole "Hey Girl" thing because it reminded me of the Ryan Gosling 'hey girl' thing with YA books. If you don't know what I'm talking about, I must sound idiotic right now :) Totally funny, and all too true.

  21. Love this video (and totally agree with it)! Hallowed broke my heart into pieces and I wish I hadn't read it early because the wait until the next one is going to be excruciating.

I thought A Million Suns was a really good second book, though (I didn't feel like it was a filler at all), but the cliffhanger ending made me almost throw the book across the room. I just finished Clockwork Angel and am trying not to read Clockwork Prince for awhile because I have heard that the ending really leaves you wanting more, so I'm trying to delay reading it as much as possible so as to reduce the time between reading it and the third book as much as possible!

  24. Glad to know I'm not the only dork who knew that the boy band in the vid was 'Nsync and not Backstreet Boys. LOL!

    Still, hilarious video! Loved it!

  25. Um yeah...this is why last year I swore off reading series until they were fully published. Of course that didn't last, but I tried for a good six months or so.

Pretty much made my day. <3

  26. I totally agree. So I'm always leaving knowing that my heart will be ripped out in the 2nd and trying to guess how they are going to do it. So sad. But I guess that is the path to book 3. Someone break the mold. Please try.

  27. Okay, REALLY. This needs to be sent to authors! So cruel and so true!! I always say I'll wait for a trilogy to be written before I read it but I can never resist.

  28. LETTERS TO CLEO!

And also yes to everything you said. Trilogies hurt my heart.

  29. Clockwork Prince and Hallowed :( I'm still not over those two books...

  30. Great video! I've noticed that if I loved the firs book in a trilogy I won't like the second as much, but if I don't like the first so much I'll end up loving the second. Although that's me I enjoy a little heartbreak, that's how I know a book is good.

  31. Love this! I always seem to hate the 2nd book in a series, whether it's a trilogy or not. Book 3 always seems to rock though.

  32. Hahahah N Sync. Now if you would've put in some lyrics about dirty pop, that would've been acceptable and irrelevant. But I care not.

PS. Why haven't I watched this before today? Bad friend alert. After the Hallowed experience of 2011, I totally concur. I still need to read Pandemonium, which makes me angsty already.
